“Lonely Reality” is my view on the state of loneliness of a modern city person.
There is something wrong with our communication and our loneliness)
On the one hand, we have a lot of relationships — thanks to various gadgets, social networks, people almost always use smartphones, tablets, computers, they often find each other in the Internet space. The rapid development of social networks and mobile communications is an excellent remedy for loneliness: indeed, at any time and in any place there is an opportunity to make contact with a specific person or with an entire audience. Offline, there is a special format of communication — not very obligatory, not very intrusive, on the Internet, people can escape from the formal relationships that strain them in everyday life.On the Internet, we choose a convenient space for us, convenient communication and surround ourselves with convenient characters, creating our own world, not as dangerous as the outside one. The opportunity to get all this on social networks makes people spend more and more time online, thereby masking real loneliness. In real life, loneliness is increasing. At work, in the family, with neighbors at home.Especially in conditions when we are extremely rarely truly alone, but nevertheless feel ourselves as such. Gradually, the ability to “be alone” in the presence of someone, to be absent in relationships appears. Loneliness can act as a defense against suffering, as salvation from a threat, as an escape from something terrible. And most often, an escape from oneself, as a form of existential vacuum, as a loss of the value of “what to live for and why to live.” This leads to a huge number of tragic phenomena.
But the reality is that life is empty and lonely by default if we do not fill it with things that are valuable to us.
Loneliness has a range of negative effects. It causes stress, which has long-term effects not only on psychological well-being but also on immune function.
Why the image of a bright red dress? I remember myself in a state of loneliness in society, at a party, and in my head I think: “I don’t feel comfortable here, as if everyone is staring at me, as if I have stains on my clothes.” If you are in red, then everyone will notice you. They will pay attention to the problem of loneliness of many people, which often remains outside our field of vision.
The image of the dress blurs the line between the animate and the objective.
